Spending time near a river with my dog is always an enjoyable adventure, but safety is crucial when exploring these areas. Rivers can have hidden dangers like strong currents, slippery rocks, and steep banks, which can be risky for pets. Over time, I’ve learned several ways to keep my dog safe while enjoying the river.
I always check the river’s conditions before heading out. Knowing whether the current is strong or if there are any hazards in the water helps me decide if it’s a safe spot for my dog. I also keep my dog on a leash when we’re near the water to prevent him from getting too close to potentially dangerous areas. This gives me control if he gets too excited or tries to jump in.
The riverbank itself can be tricky, with slippery rocks or uneven ground that can cause my dog to fall. I watch where we walk and avoid areas with steep drop-offs or unstable footing.
